Visitors to Lexington can drive the actual route of the early Santa Fe Trail travelers.  While now paved, many of the homes and business buildings along this route are still standing and in use.

The Starting Point

A start for your trip through Lexington begins at the intersection of Main Street and Dover Road.  Only two blocks long, this original curve in the trail will have you listening for the sound of horses and later mules, carrying loads of goods to be used along the trail..

At the second intersection, take a peek through the trees up the hill on your left and you’ll see a large white home called Graystone.  The home started as an early log cabin with a nearby spring and was the first stopping point for the Santa Fe Trail in Lexington.
